Brief Summary:
This is an easy introductory overnight hike. Day 1 will be a day hike with day packs to down the mountain after setting up our campsite and return to the camp site. Day 2 will be carrying a full overnight pack for a short hike. Aim is to gently introduce youth to overnight hiking and hiking equipment, so they can be more prepared for more difficult hikes in future. Attendance criteria: •Youth are required to be 10yrs and older. •Must have min of 2 night under canvas •Cook own dinner on a hiking cooker. assistance will be given if required. •Must have completed a hikes that total over 10km •Have the ability to walk 10km in one day.
Additional Information

We will be starting and finishing at Old Ford Reserve, Megalong Rd, Megalong Valley. 
The event is format as a day walk with day pack,  then camping with a training element and then a short hike with full packs on Sunday with a talk about packing a hiking pack. 
 
Your gear will need to be packed two different ways, so please ensure you pack according to the requirements. We will be hiking on Saturday with only a small back pack with Saturdays day time food.  Then all remaining gear in a hiking pack.
Please don't bring any electronic devices. Toilet block is at the camp site. 

Day 1 walk will be down the mountain after setting up our campsite. Please note that we need to be transported from Old Ford Reserve to cnr Nellies Glen Rd & Pulpit hill rd about 40 mins after the event starts, which is on the way home for most people doing drop off, so if you could waiting and help with the drop off at the top of the hill it would be greatly appricated.

Day 2 once up and breakfast has been eaten, we will pack down the tents and place all gear on the tarp ready for the packing demo. You will learn the best way to pack a hiking pack to ensure your back is supported and your carrying the wieght correctly. Tarps can be used under the tent on the Saturday for extra comfort.

Once everyone is packed up correctly we will be going for a hike carrying the hiking packs and then returning to Old Ford Reserve as it’s the parent collection area.

Small back pack with :
Saturday's Lunch, Saturday's snacks, Rain coat, Small first aid kit, Hat, Layered clothing, Water for the Hike  1.5-2lts and Sunscreen. Walking sticks are recommended.
 
Hiking Pack with :
Saturday Dinner, Tent, Sleeping bag & bed mat, Cooking Gear, Sunday Water  1.5-2lts,Clothing for sleeping and Sunday, Eating gear, Saturday night dinner, Sunday breakfast and snacks, toiletries and Extra socks  - If rain predicted 
Small tarp - 1.1 x 1.7m Tarpaulin from Bunnings $2.70 is perfect.

No compass cost is only avaiable for leaders as we want all youth to be using the same type of compass, which is easier for the Leaders when completing the training elements of this weekend.
