Brief Summary:
Over-night trip canoe instruction workshop at Beendeela Camp Ground, Kangaroo Valley on Saturday with base camp on-site followed by paddle journey on Sunday. Suitable for Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, Leaders, Adult Supporters. SIS Qualifications can be obtained. Pre-requisie e-learning modules - BOS and Canoeing/Kayaking.

Attending scouts should be accompanied by an adult known to them - (preferably from their group) 

Own transport from Sydney (leave Saturday morning or Friday night). 

Saturday will be at Beendeela Recreational Area Camp Ground, Kangaroo Valley. Entry and camping is free.  Participants are required to bring their own lightweight camping equipment, including tent, bedding, stove etc – prepared as if you were going on a hike on land and carrying your gear. Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen etc) required; Food and water for 2 days and 1 night. Bring a warm jumper (woollen is good) and rain coat/pants to help keep you dry in bad weather.  Water Shoes are essential. No Crocs please.

On Saturday participants will be taught to fit a pfd/life jacket, select the right paddle, use appropriate paddle strokes competently, self-rescue, talk about the environment and weather in regard to boating, talk about steps required when planning for a trip, apply navigation techniques, do a self rescue and a deep water rescue, raft up and swap boats on water.

Bring a copy of the weather report and a topographic map of the area – Kangaroo Valley

Sunday may commence with a car shuffle to Kangaroo Valley township after breakfast.

The activity cost of $50 does not include transport nor food. It covers only the GWS Region supply of a Life Jacket, Paddle and Canoe.

Complete the Level 1 Canoeing workbook and bring it with you if you are an adult or a Venturer. If you require a Level 2 workbook (i.e. have more than 30 hours demonstrated canoeing in your log book) please contact the training team  training@nsw.scouts.com.au and request the Level 2 book be emailed.  If you wish to do Cert II in OUtdoor Recreation, please ask Karen Huyhn on the training team for the workbooks and bring them with you to the event.

Scouts bring y our green book for an appropriate sign off in the book.
