Additional Information

Introduction

Point Clare to Woy Woy via Koolewong and Kariong. An entry level hike based in the Brisbane Water National Park. The distance is 16 km over 2 days. Located near Gosford, The Gosford glyphs are a group of approximately 300 Egyptian hieroglyphs in an area known for is Aboriginal petroglyphs. They are carved into two parellel sandstone walls about 15 m long. They dipict boats, chickens, dogs, owls, stick men, a dog's bone as well as two that appear to be the names of kings, one of them Khufu, the other uncertain. There is also a carving of the ancient Egyptian god Anubis. There is some mystery surrounding the origin of the glyphs, one of which links them to a similar heritage as the Sphinx War Memorial.
