Brief Summary:
This trip is a white water kayaking skills development weekend. For novices it will introduce skills in paddling, safety & negotiating rapids. For more experienced paddlers workshops on more advanced techniques and rescue/recovery will be offered. Recommended for venturers and older. This can be a physically demanding activity. Note: there will be a pre-activity development session preceding this event to introduce new participants to equipment and basic techniques. Options in the preceding few weeks will be negotiated after registration.

Prerequisites: You must be a confident swimmer in strong, turbulent water. This is a physically demanding activity.

Cost: $50 includes equipment, and camp fees. $30 if you supply your own boat and paddling equipment. Note: Fuel contribution is also required. Expect between $40-$60 depending on location and numbers attending. Pay driver. This is a self cater event.

Location: Location will depend on river levels and will be confirmed in the week preceding the trip. Updates will be communicated via email. Preferred locations are:

  1. Childowla on the Murrumbidgee River, near Yass
  2. Canberra on the Murrumbidgee River
  3. Barrington River near Gloucester
  4. Oallen Ford on the Upper Shoalhaven River, near Braidwood

When: We will leave Campbelltown at 6am Saturday 26/11/22. Contact Activity Leader below for travel details. Return time will depend on location.

What to expect: Plenty of paddling plus development of paddling skills including stroke technique, rescue and recovery skills, bracing and rolling sessions. Note: due to equipment limitations, members outside of Hume region may be required to source & transport their own boats if large numbers apply. Contact activity co-ordinator to discuss.
